Teaching

I think my first love was teaching, although the universities I have worked at have tried desperately to subjugate that love! My Teaching page details recent stuff.

Research

I also love doing research, although not that much recognition ever flowed my way. I think my model of what constitutes research is different from most others. Make your own judgement by visiting my Research page. (Note that many of the references therein are now inaccessible, due to the original web pages being removed by Monash.)

Administration

In my latter years I found myself doing a lot of Administration, particularly as Associate Dean Teaching in the Faculty of IT, and then as Chair of the Academic Board, Monash University. I'd venture to say that the years I spent as Associate Dean Teaching were among my happiest, and most rewarding. (The pages linked here have now been removed, as they are obsolete.)

Retirement

In retirement, I am currently serving on the Academic Board of the Melbourne Institute of Technology, and the IT Course Committee of the Australian College of Applied Professions.

• Panel member of both ACS and EA Accreditation Panels.
• I am a Member of the Australian Computer Society and was on the Academic Board of ACS Education before it was dismantled in 2016.
• I am a life member of the IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society .
• I was a member of the Association for Computing Machinery, and for many years was a reviewer for Computing Reviews. I stood down from ACM membership in 2013.

• I have given a talk on XML to the Progress User Group (a commercial software users group)
