Chook Door Version2.1 (20250108)

This version is electrically the same as version 1.1, but the circuit diagram has been redrawn to reflect the new implementation, using plugs and sockets to provide the connections between the controller and the environment. It was found that there were two problems with the version 1.1: a) the use of terminal blocks to make connections between the controller and the various external devices, and b) the exposed nature of both the controller and its associated wiring, leading to destructive engagement by rodents living in the chook house.

The new version has all active components within a sealed box, and it is planned to have all cabling in conduit, to avoid problems with rodents, and yet allow easy access for debugging purposes.

Early days as yet, but hopefully the more modular and protected implementation of version 2.1 will ensure greater reliability. After all, version 1.1 has survived for over 9 years!

J1
Banana plug and socket, red +ve, black -ve, used for the motor connection.
J2
Jones 10-pin plug and socket (only 6 pins used), used for power, up/down selection, proof open/closed. This is the cable to the computer system.
J3
XLR 5-pin plug and socket, used for the proof open microswitch connection.
J4
XLR 5-pin plug and socket, used for the proof closed microswitch connection.

Afterthought: might need another (3-pin) connector to go to the local up/down push buttons to control the door. These would need to duplicate J2a (+12v), J2d (door down), and J2u (door up). Solution: Use spare pins on J3, J4.

Documentation Note: The diagram is an svg diagram, constructed with inkscape. There are three layers to the diagram: ChookDoorV2.0 (the circuit diagram); Connexions (all the soldering points), and Wires (all the hookup wires, coloured coded as above). These may be made visible or hidden within inkscape.
