Michael Morwood's Articles of Faith

These articles are paraphrased from Michael Morwood's book It's Time: Challenges to the Doctrine of Faith, a rather Catholic treatise, but very relevant to Protestants, too. It summarizes neatly a whole heap of doctrinal issues that I have wrestled with over the years, and comes very close to distilling what I ultimately believe about Christianity. Jesus was The Person, God is The Divine Presence (DP).

  1. The Divine Presence is always present and active.
  2. This mystery is beyond human notions
  3. universality of consciousness and energy are pointers to the DP
  4. The DP is manifest in our universe and world through observable patterns
  5. The human species emerged within the DP as evidence of these patterns
  6. The DP was/is/will be present in all that exists, including humans
  7. revelation comes from the ground up, not from "heaven"
  8. The DP is manifest through the pinnacles of human endeavour
  9. Jesus came from the DP - not from "God"
  10. Jesus understood how men and women might recognize the DP
  11. It is the message of Jesus that is important
  12. Jesus died into the DP as we all do
  13. Christians respond to the DP within us, as Jesus did
